How the character counter works
Paste any text and the counter fills as you paste. The first number counts every character including spaces and line breaks; the second strips all whitespace, which is the number most strict character limits actually mean. Words, sentences and paragraphs sit alongside, so you never need a second site to check the rest.
People reach for a character counter when a limit is enforced by software rather than an editor: a social post, a meta description, a form field, an ad headline. Pasting here shows the number before you hit the limit, updated on every keystroke.
Tokens are estimated at roughly 4 characters per token, close to what GPT-4o and Claude use for English text — a guide for context windows, not an exact bill. Everything runs in your browser. Nothing you paste is uploaded or stored, and there is no limit on length.
